My Rite Aid Trip - Green Cleaners
I had to blow $10 +Ups today at Rite Aid and I've exhausted the Banana Boat, Bayer, Jhirmack & Utz deals, so I bought some very inexpensive green cleaners to roll some +Ups. Oh and lucky me, some guy didn't have a Wellness card and was buying a bunch of baby formula so the cashier asked for my card so he could get the 20% discount and I could get more points. Thanks Tina!
2 RA wintergreen isopropyl alcohol 16oz $2.69 & B1G1 Free
6 RA hydrogen peroxide 32oz @ $1.99 & B1G1 Free
2 RA hydrogen peroxide 16o $1.49 & B1G1 Free
Total = $10.15
less $10 +Ups
OOP = 15c & earned $5 +Ups or $5.15/10 items
What will I do with all these items? Clean of course! Hydrogen peroxide is non toxic. So it's great for kitchen/bathroom cleaning. Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol is a disinfectant and degreaser.
Uses for Hydrogen Peroxide
Clean cutting boards - The EPA has approved it as a sanitizer
Wipe out fridge/dishwasher
Clean sponges
Use as a vegetable wash to kill bacteria
Clean your Toilet bowl
Clean your toothbrush (soak to kill bacteria especially after cold/flu)
Clean door knobs, toys or walls (I put it in a spray bottle)
Uses for Isopropyl Alcohol
Clean your TV remotes and telephones
Combine with water to clean windows or mirrors (1/1)
Clean your keyboard and mouse
Removes ink stains
Clean chrome
Sanitize a thermometer
Wipe down porcelain sink (removes grimy fingerprints!)
I highly recommend the wintergreen rubbing alcohol. It smells clean. Do you routinely use these green products? If you have any additional cleaning tips, I'm all ears!
I buy a ton of baking soda when it goes on sale or I can find it really cheap. Baking soda is great for EVERYTHING!
ReplyDeleteI just found a recipe for dishwasher detergent on Pinterest that uses Borax & Baking Soda. I get my a finish for free of course, but I really worry about what it's leaving behind. I figure if I can smell cleaner on my glasses, I shouldn't be drinking out of them!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried to clean with rubbing alcohol but hydrogen peroxide is my bestie!
ReplyDeleteAnd it is awesome that someone used your card and you got all those points!!!!
Vinegar is a good all purpose cleaner. Also, a mix of vinegar and baking soda is good for unclogging dishwasher and kitchen sink drains.
ReplyDeleteBeth and Larry, yes baking soda and vinegar are definitely green too and staples in my home. I clean my granite countertops with vinegar and water mix. Heather, that's interesting. I wonder how effective it is. I think it's hard to beat the cleaning of those Finish Quantums. Using Cascade tablets and just not as good IMO.
ReplyDeleteSonya Ann, I know bring on the points!!!
I like the idea of green products but doesn't the vinegar smell?
ReplyDeleteI don't mind the smell of vinegar and the smell dissipates quickly.
ReplyDeleteIf you're worried about the vinegar smell throw some lemon zest or orange zest (on sale next week at ShopRite for $1.99 4lb bag of oranges) in the vinegar for a week or 2 then strain it before you mix with the water. That way you get the citrus smell and you get an antimicrobial from the citrus oils.

It's a wonderful post with step by step pictures.
Beth, just brilliant. I love that idea. I would use oranges.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, this is something I will want to try out.
